URL Collective stands committed to revitalizing and fortifying communities by empowering the media and information ecosystem. We believe that a thriving democracy depends on informing, serving and representing a multitude of voices—especially those too often underserved or unheard. Through bold education initiatives, relentless legislative advocacy, and forward-thinking business solutions, we champion independent journalism and sustain community publishers as pillars of truth and accountability.

By ensuring equitable access to resources and amplifying diverse perspectives, we are not just transforming media outlets—we are safeguarding the very foundations of this country. URL Collective stands at the intersection of justice and information, uniting communities to shape a future where media truly serves, reflects, and uplifts everyone.

URL Collective is a nonprofit organization established in 2024 by URL Media co-founders Sara Lomax and S. Mitra Kalita to expand the impact of charitable and educational initiatives that strengthen the media ecosystem. We focus on providing support to community-based, legacy, and early-stage media outlets—particularly those serving Black and Brown communities—through capacity-building services, training programs, and resource development.

The Collective works at the intersection of community empowerment and media sustainability. We help publishers build strong business foundations, develop operational systems, and access the tools needed to thrive in an evolving industry. In addition, we equip emerging and established journalists with the skills and networks to authentically represent underrepresented voices.

Through these efforts, URL Collective fosters a more equitable and resilient information landscape, ensuring that diverse communities are better informed, represented, and connected.
