Every dollar donated saves a life of a child in Africa from malaria by providing an ACT-combined immunotherapeutic treatment subsidized by two pharmaceutical companies (Novartis and Alere). The issue is getting people to donate on an individual basis (it's so simple people often lack the nudge to actually do it). That's where POU comes in, we use the power of community to get people to run bakesales, karaoke nights, etc. It's an easy sell because a dollar saves a life plus you get a free cupcake; and besides the obvious life-saving opportunities, the students who start this at their school can found the on-campus club, be President, VP... of a Global Health initiative, put it on their resume, and so on.
