Special Program for the Promotion of Dialogue and Conflict Resolution UPD/OAS

The Special Program for the Promotion of Dialogue and Conflict Resolution of the Unit for the Promotion of Democracy (UPD) of the Organization of American States (OAS) mission is to assist government and civil society organizations to develop local and national capacities in public dialogue and consensual decision-making processes. The Special Program provides technical assistance to Member States of the Ameicas to develop and institutionalize permanent and ad hoc mechanisms for resolving conflicts, as well as to develop conflict prevention and management systems.

Recognizing that the prevention and effective resolution of deep-rooted political and social conflict, and the ability to manage situations of political crisis are vital for sustaining and deepening democratic governance, the Special Program for the Promotion of Dialogue and Conflict Resolution build skills in good governance and conflict transformation while promoting the necessary values, attitudes and practices that support them: inclusiveness, transparency, collaboration, respect for human rights and the rule of law.
