Bronx Collaborative High School

Bronx Collaborative High School brings Coalition of Essential Schools and New York Performance Standards Consortium principles into action in the north Bronx. We are a college prep program that stresses students’ developing their critical thinking, research, writing, and public speaking/debate skills.

We are adding another grade and therefore looking to hire English, Music, Foreign Language-Spanish, Special Education, and English as a Second Language teachers to join our 9th or 10th grade teams for September 2014. We are especially interested in teachers who are bilingual in Spanish, Arabic, or French. We welcome conversations with teachers in all subjects seeking the opportunity to teach to their expertise with tremendous administrative support.

Our instruction focuses around three key “pillars”:

1) the study of real-world problems to build problem-solving/analysis skills to “read” the world as classroom

2) the integration of digital technology tools and social media to engage students as media producers; and

3) the evolution of students’ social and emotional learning skills to achieve increased personal integrity via daily Advisory, classroom social justice content, and restorative practices/holistic discipline.

The school’s leadership and founding team drew from the administration and faculty of the Institute for Collaborative Education (I.C.E.) to bring a “slice of I.C.E.” to the north Bronx. Our ongoing partnerships with I.C.E. and other progressive Consortium schools create an excellent climate for professional growth. We support faculty through weekly professional development, mentoring/coaching, and “advisory”-model supervision. We integrate Fred Newman’s framework for instructional alignment to supplement Danielson.

The school is located by Van Cortlandt Park, one block from the 4 train and at the hub of 6 Bronx buses that connect the school to Riverdale, Inwood, Washington Heights, Norwood, Pelham Bay/Pelham Parkway, and Gun Hill Road. In addition the school is a 10 minute walk from a B/D train stop. The campus has a large parking lot.
