Green Jobs - Green New York

Acerca de

The state of New York has partnered with the Public Policy and Education fund to combat the rising costs of energy. By promoting energy efficiency, the Green Jobs – Green New York program not only reduces utility bills, but also enables sustainable communities and explores pathways to job training for various green-collar jobs.

Green Jobs – Green New York is providing the residents of Central New York with free to low-cost home energy assessments. A BPI-accredited contractor performs a comprehensive home analysis of energy loss, lighting, and insulation, as well as important health and safety checks of major combustion appliances. The contractor reviews the results with the participant and provides options of cost-efficient energy upgrades, which vary depending on budgets, goals, and urgency. The program is for homeowners and renters alike, as well as landlords, businesses and Not-for-Profits.

The benefits of this program are numerous: consistent temperatures throughout rooms, fewer drafts, cooler summers, warmer winters, increased health and safety, and lower utility bills. Just as important, the community becomes more aware of energy conservation measures.

This program is different from other products as it services a variety of income levels, as well as a higher financing cap, providing more upgrades, with a 50% match by the program. Through the aggregation pilot in targeted neighborhoods, neighbors can receive rebates from contractors when participating. Neighborhoods can collectively take advantage of upgrades, while receiving money back. Local hire plan and benefits to the community through aggregation will ensure greater business participation as well as local employment to trained residents.
