Educated Hearts

Educated Hearts is a grassroots volunteer movement to fill overlooked community needs. Our motto is "An educated mind is nothing without an educated heart." Last winter we had a successful boots and bra clothes drives for a women's shelter (2 items that people do not think to donate but are very needed) and held a vision board party for residents Calvary Women's Services, a transitional housing program. Currently, we are collaborating with Unity Health Care who provides care to the medically underserved and homeless throughout DC. In the past Unity had received Reach Out and Read funding that enabled them to provide children's books in the waiting rooms for the families to read together and take home.   Unfortunately, the funding was not renewed and the bookshelves are bare. Unity serves over 30,000 children annually at their Upper Cardozo clinic. Our group is creating a small children's book drive to collect new and used books for at least one of Unity's waiting rooms.
