The People’s Center for Economic Independence (PCEI) is a newly formed not-for-profit that was created as an affiliated partner organization to the Lower East Side People’s Federal Credit Union (LESPFCU). LESPFCU is a community development credit union chartered in 1986 to serve the community and economic development needs of the Lower East Side of Manhattan. PCEI’s mission is to improve the financial management knowledge and skills of low and moderate income New Yorkers in order to improve their household’s economic standing. PCEI currently offers free tax preparation services, financial education workshops and is developing a small business education program.
