The mission of Jan Mitra Nyas (JMN) and the People's Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR) is to advance human dignity, social justice, and inclusive democracy by supporting marginalized and excluded communities. We work to protect human rights, promote education, strengthen community leadership, combat caste- and gender-based discrimination, and create sustainable pathways toward equality, peace, and empowerment. Through grassroots action, policy advocacy, and international solidarity, we strive to ensure that no one is left behind.

People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR) is a grassroots human rights movement founded in 1996 by Lenin Raghuvanshi and Shruti Nagvanshi in Varanasi, India. Jan Mitra Nyas (JMN), established in 1999, serves as the legal and charitable trust supporting PVCHR's work. PVCHR holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

We work with marginalized and excluded communities, particularly Dalits, tribal communities, religious minorities, women, children, bonded labourers, and survivors of torture and organized violence. Inspired by the values of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, we promote human dignity, equality, non-violence, participatory democracy, and the rule of law.

Our vision is to build a people-friendly society ("Jan Mitra Samaj") where every individual enjoys equal rights, dignity, and opportunities regardless of caste, gender, religion, or social status.

Over the past three decades, PVCHR and JMN have:

• Supported thousands of survivors of torture, trafficking, bonded labour, and organized violence.

• Promoted quality education and scholarships for marginalized children and girls.

• Established child-rights villages, women-led community institutions, and torture-free village initiatives.

• Worked on health, nutrition, livelihoods, gender equality, and social inclusion.

• Engaged with national and international human rights mechanisms, universities, and civil society networks to advance justice and sustainable peace.

Today, through direct action, research, advocacy, community mobilization, and international partnerships, we continue to empower vulnerable communities and strengthen democratic participation across India. Our work contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals, including quality education, gender equality, reduced inequalities, peace and justice, and partnerships for development.
