The Youth Development Center is a collaboration between The Youth Learning Institute of Clemson University and the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice to divert status offenders from behind the fence detention. The Youth Development Center combines divergent learning approaches in an outdoor education environment. This at risk youth facility teaches youth 12-17 their learning style and gives them tools to return to the traditional environment. The Youth Development Center uses outdoor education and adventure modalities as a regular course of treatment.
