Keio Academy of New York was established in 1990 by the Keio Gijuku (Keio Private School System) of Japan (which also operates Keio University, one of the most prestigious private schools in Japan). Keio Academy of New York is accredited by the New York State Department of Education and the Ministry of Education and Science, Japan. In addition, the school was accredited by the New York State Association of Independent School (NYSAIS) in 2001.
