Acerca de

At IMPACT Boston, our organizational approach focuses on teaching personal safety and self-defense in a way that supports body-oriented healing and overall wellness. Our organizational philosophy emphasizes social change, abuse prevention, healing, empowerment, awareness and sensitivity to students' histories of trauma. We help people develop confidence and the ability to communicate and advocate for themselves effectively when they feel fear. Our self-defense classes are taught by a team of two instructors, one of whom takes on the role of a perpetrator. This instructor wears a full suit of body armor so students can safely defend themselves using the same force needed in a real attack. Through repeated practice of fighting full-force in an adrenalized state, students learn to respond effectively to realistic situations of threat, intimidation and imminent danger. IMPACT teaches classes for all ages, genders, sizes, and abilities, and has specialized curriculum for homeless parents, people with disabilities, LGBTQ-identified persons, and abuse survivors. IMPACT also teaches classes on de-escalation, healthy relationships, abuse prevention, as well as classes for people with disabilities including self-defense, online safety, and sex education.

IMPACT has operated under Triangle, Inc., a Malden-based disability service agency, for the last 17 years. We have now grown to the point where our work is best served by becoming an independent organization. We will be separating from Triangle in July of 2023.

We are looking for team members who are committed to social, racial, disability, and gender justice, and who are excited about helping IMPACT begin this new chapter. The IMPACT workplace values trauma-informed practices, shared decision making, work/life balance, direct communication, flexibility, creativity, humor, hard work, compassion, and a strong commitment to our mission. We are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of employees through practices such as support from a trained therapist that employees can access during their regular paid workday.
