Our mission is to fight obesity and empower families to live healthier lives.
Overview
Healthy Kids in the Heights is committed to fighting obesity and helping families create lasting lifestyle changes.
Founder Catarina Rivera was a teacher for four years, and witnessed firsthand the obesity crisis unfolding in her classroom. She became passionate about nutrition and health, and became a certified holistic health coach. Healthy Kids in the Heights was born in 2011 as a grassroots summer fitness program for kids. It has now expanded to become a comprehensive health program targeting parents and families.In 2012, a partnership was forged with ACDP (Communal Association of Progressive Dominicans) to provide health education to families ACDP serves. Healthy Kids in the Heights believes collaboration is key in fighting obesity and proactively develops strategic partnerships.
Our fiscal sponsor is Learning Power, Inc. In 2012, we launched a successful online crowdfunding campaign on the RocketHub platform and reached our goal. Our work is only made possible through the generosity of our supporters, including individuals and businesses.
