Friends of the Arava Institute

Friends of the Arava Institute, Ltd (FAI) is a not-for-profit organization located in Newton, MA. FAI is organized exclusively for charitable, scientific, educational, and public awareness purposes. Although FAI’s mission allows it to support a broad range of activities, it has historically focused its efforts on the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies (AIES), located on Kibbutz Ketura, Israel.

FAI advances environmental research and regional cooperation by promoting public awareness, supporting educational initiatives, and funding mission-aligned activities. Its work has primarily involved raising financial support for AIES, recruiting North American students and interns, and conducting outreach that strengthens cross-cultural understanding and fosters collaboration on environmental issues.

The Friends of the Arava Institute (FAI) is the U.S. Friends of Organization for the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies (www.arava.org), a leading environmental studies and research program in the Middle East. Located on Kibbutz Ketura, in Israel’s Arava Valley, the Arava Institute houses academic programs, research centers, and regional cooperation programs focusing on a range of environmental challenges.

The Arava Institute is dedicated to the concept that nature knows no borders. With a student body comprised of Jordanians, Palestinians, Israelis, and students from around the world, the Arava Institute offers an exceptional opportunity to learn from leading scientists, form friendships, and develop skills to help solve today’s most pressing environmental concerns.

FAI is a federally registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. It's goal is to ensure the Institute's continued success and growth through U.S. student recruitment, effective fundraising and public awareness campaigns.
