Black Girl Joy, Inc

Black Girl Joy is a sacred, affirming space that centers and celebrates the rest, wellness, and joy of Black women. We honor all healthy things that bring joy to Black women, including nature, sisterhood, culture, adventure, healing, and creative expression. Through community connection, outdoor gatherings, skill sharing, affordable housing, and land access and acquisition, we cultivate rest as a form of resistance and joy as a birthright.

Black Girl Joy, Inc. is a Michigan based nonprofit that creates sacred, affirming spaces centered on the rest, wellness, and joy of Black women. Our work is rooted in the belief that rest is not a luxury for Black women, but a necessity and a birthright.

We serve adult Black women, primarily in West Michigan, who are navigating burnout, isolation, caregiving demands, workplace stress, grief, and the long term effects of being expected to carry everything for everyone else. Many of the women we serve are professionals, mothers, caregivers, creatives, and community leaders who rarely have spaces where they can simply be held, supported, and encouraged to slow down.

Our values are grounded in community care, dignity, cultural affirmation, and accessibility. We center Black women intentionally, create environments that feel safe and welcoming, and design programming that honors different bodies, abilities, incomes, and life seasons. Our offerings include nature based gatherings, hikes, self care and rest focused events, Soul Connect conversations, and community building experiences that foster honest connection and healing.

Volunteers who join Black Girl Joy are stepping into work that is relational, restorative, and purpose driven. We value people who believe in collective care, respect boundaries, and understand that joy, rest, and wellness are essential to building healthy individuals and communities.
