Its mission is to transform the promise of equality into reality for African Americans and, ultimately, all individuals in the areas of education, political participation, economic justice and criminal justice.Among its current priorities, LDF is challenging initiatives to undermine affirmative action in higher education; battling the re-segregation of public schools; protecting minority participation in the electoral process; pursuing the restoration of the voting rights of persons convicted of felonies; combating employment discrimination; and seeking to bring justice to African Americans through fair jury selection practices and adequately funded indigent defense systems.
