Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service

CCIVS is the co-ordinating body for international voluntary service (IVS) organisations founded in 1948 under the aegis of UNESCO, counting more than 250 member associations in 96 countries, including 5 international networks and several regional structures and platforms. It acts as a link to establish relations between the members and international institutions such as the EU, different UN agencies or other international foundations. CCIVS fosters the development of regional networks through the organisation of international seminars and the production of publications.

Other activities include:

• the promotion of voluntary service in new geographic areas and new types of service through the organisation of pilot training projects and pilot projects of new types of service;
• the provision of information on international voluntary service through meetings, publicity, e-mail, internet and the documentation centre established at the Secretariat in Paris, which stores material about such programs as EVS or the United Nations Volunteers, as well as information about the member organisations of CCIVS;
• political lobbying and bridging international governmental organisations’ programs with the activities of our members;
• strengthening and developing the capacity of the international voluntary service movement through training events and materials, as well as the drafting of quality standards for such projects.
