Guided by the example of grace in the life of our founder, Elizabeth Hazelton Sherrard, the mission of Children's Home Society is: ? To provide the essence of Home -- refuge, nourishment, love, and limits -- for children whose homes have been violated; ? To shelter and serve battered women in crisis; ? To educate and counsel children whose special needs require special devotion; ? To serve families who need help in sustaining the essence of Home; ? To share the lessons of our own experience and lift up the wisdom of others.

Children's Home Society(CHS) is a private, non-profit human service agency established in 1893 by William and Elizabeth Sherrard. Black Hills Children's Home is a residential treatment center for children, primarily between the ages of 4-13, with emotional and behavioral problems. The Messengers Of Healing Winds Emergency Foster Home is located in Rapid City. It provides refuge to children who have recently been removed from their home due to abuse or neglect.
