The Lighthouse | Black Girl Projects

The Lighthouse | Black Girl Projects operates as a non-profit organization with multiple projects. We aim take a comprehensive approach to personal, social and leadership development in that we want black girls and young women to thrive rather than just survive, and thriving is contingent upon many things we don’t necessarily have control over.  Based in Jackson, Mississippi, its mission is to be a revelatory, unflickering light for black girls and young women in the southeastern United States by providing a safe space and focused programming to address their personal, social and leadership development needs.

Aside from just being natives of and located in MS, The Lighthouse targets black girls and young women in the southeast because it is among the most isolated - geographically and economically regions in America. Many southern states have been and continue to be negatively impacted by regressive policies that leave many black women and their children under-educated, under-employed, and without access to many basic rights such as adequate healthcare.
