Indigenous Fisher Peoples Network (IFP)

Acerca de

Indigenous Fisher Peoples Network (IFP) is a local partnership NGO working with and across fisher peoples in Kenya founded in August 2004 after consultations among the representatives of these communities. IFP’s is inspired by many years of neglect and wanton marginalization of fisher people from mainstream social, political, economic and culture of “modern” society. IFP hopes to address this exclusion and marginalization through research, policy advocacy and capacity building related to indigenous fisher peoples’ development.

IFP is a research and advocacy organisation that works to strengthen the capacities of fisher peoples and their organisations in Kenya and Africa to achieve recognition, respect and development. Its overall goal is to strengthen the capacities of communities and community based organisations to effectively advocate for their rights as indigenous peoples and participate in development and policy processes.
