  • Misión

To improve communication, quality of life, and overall well-being for individuals and families affected by aphasia.

    Acerca de

Aphasia is loss or reduction in language (speaking, understanding, reading, and/or writing) following brain damage, typically as a result of a stroke.

We lead the way in innovative, person-centered programs built on the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia (LPAA). Through community-based programs, expert staff, and compassionate care, we are a trusted resource in the field — empowering people to reconnect with their lives and communities. We provide online conversation groups for people in California with aphasia and their care partners.

The Aphasia Center of California (ACC), founded in 1996 by Dr. Roberta J. Elman, was the first independent nonprofit in the U.S. dedicated to providing direct services for people with aphasia. Dr. Elman’s groundbreaking research proved that individuals could continue making meaningful progress through regular “communication workouts”, helping many re-engage with their communities and lives.
