CASA - Climbing Association of Southern Arizona

Acerca de

CASA is a home for climbers. It’s a place where you can learn new skills and have fun being a steward of the areas we use. Our work is the foundation for our advocacy for climbers, and it empowers us to address access issues when they arise.

The mission of the Climbing Association of Southern Arizona (CASA) is to advocate for local climbers through stewardship, education, and partnership with land managers.

CASA was formed in January of 2015 by all-volunteers intent upon achieving positive benefits for the local climbing community through service. In Southern Arizona, as across the nation, climbing has been growing by leaps and bounds, with climbers taking to the outdoors at all levels of experience and outdoor ethical practices. Likewise, there has been a growing number of climbers that wanted to give back to their community, but needed a vehicle that would provide the organizational support, expertise, and guidance they needed to implement their ideas.

CASA was founded as a platform for people to accomplish the great work they proposed, while providing a united voice that would advocate for climbers and the need to sustain the climbing environment within and among the greater community of Southern Arizona.

Goals

Since CASA is a platform for the community to accomplish climbing-related projects, its programs and activities will inherently vary with time. Regardless, all organizational activities are rooted in the belief that climbing on public lands is a privilege and aim to accomplish at least one of the following goals (which are stated in the CASA bylaws):

  • Preserve climbing resources through stewardship work and projects;
  • Provide education on responsible outdoor ethics and climbing behaviors;
  • Partner with land managers to support climbing area management, access and stewardship;
  • Support the engagement and enrichment of the climbing community; and/or
  • Advocate for rock climbing access on public and private lands.

Structure

CASA is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization modeled after the Access Fund. Members support our projects and events through participation and financial contributions.
