Acerca de

The Center on Conscience & War (CCW) works to extend and defend the rights of conscientious objectors to war. Formerly the National Interreligious Service Board for Conscientious Objectors (NISBCO), CCW was founded in 1940 by members of the Traditional Peace Churches (Quakers, Mennonites and the Church of the Brethren) and the Methodist Office of World Peace. Our founders had lived through the horror endured by conscientious objectors (COs) to World War One (WWI), and worked to change US draft law to protect those whose conscience will not allow them to participate in war. Today, in the absence of a draft, the majority of our work is in support of members of the US military, who, following a crisis of conscience, seek discharge as conscientious objectors. CCW walks with them as they navigate the complex legal pathway toward honorable discharge as COs.

CCW also provides counseling and support to youth facing draft (Selective Service) Registration and COs seeking US citizenship who cannot take the standard oath to bear arms for the country.

The Center on Conscience and War is committed to supporting all those who question their participation in war, whether they are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, documented or undocumented immigrants, or citizens in other countries.
