The Tango Therapy Project (TTP) is a Philadelphia-based nonprofit whose mission is to provide therapeutic benefit, improve quality of life, spark joy, and promote social connection through Argentine tango. Inspired by scientific research demonstrating tango’s benefits for people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), as well as seniors and individuals with other motor and neurological disorders, TTP aims to share these benefits more widely by bringing adapted tango programs to people who might not otherwise experience this unique art form. In our inaugural year of programming, we piloted an adapted tango program for people with PD and their caregivers, recruited and trained a cohort of community volunteers, and received enthusiastic feedback. We are working toward a second year of dance programming and looking to expand our team.
