Helen Owen Carey Child Development Center

The Helen Owen Carey Child Development Center has been providing quality early childhood programs in Park Slope, Brooklyn since 1974. We serve income-eligible children ages 2.6 through kindergarten. In addition, we provide out-of-school time care for children ages 6 through 9 years. We participate in the New York State Universal Pre-K program, and we are registered as a school with the New York State Department of Education.

Our Philosophy: We believe that children of all ages, children with special needs and those who are typically developing, are active learners from birth. They need to explore, and experience their world; choosing, manipulating and experimenting, watching, reaching out and communicating in their own unique ways. These explorations must be grounded in and supported by warm, trusting and loving relationships with the important adults in their world, their parents and caregivers. This developmentally appropriate environment provides a strong base for school-readiness and academic success. Our children move on to become successful learners with strong language, reading, and math skills.
