Yoga Behind Bars

Yoga Behind Bars (YBB) is the only nonprofit in WA State dedicated to bringing trauma-sensitive yoga to prisons, jails, and detention centers. Our programs promote rehabilitation and offer people inner tools and resources to break the cycle of repeated incarceration. YBB is mainly funded by individual donors and powered by over a 100 volunteer instructors. Based in Seattle, we offer weekly programs for youth and adults at 17 facilities, including classes in solitary confinement, veterans units, and mental health units. Since in 2015, we have started training incarcerated women and men to be yoga teachers, nurturing compassionate leaders behind bars.
