Mission and Vision
Secure Illinois Retirements brings together public-sector workers, elected officials at both the local and state levels, and members of the community.
We seek resilient and sustainable solutions to our state's public pension shortfall — not quick fixes.
Background
Founded in 2021, Secure Illinois Retirements (SIR) is an independent non-profit organization seeking to educate and empower public-sector workers.
We are giving public-sector employees information about how their pensions are at risk, and how this could affect their retirement future. We believe public-sector employees should get involved in securing their own retirement. And we believe every community in Illinois can find solutions that will work best for them.
Ultimately, our goal is to bring together public-sector employees and elected officials at both the local and state levels to find sustainable solutions to the underfunding of pensions. We provide a platform for concerned parties to convene and discuss solutions.
Together, Illinois police, firefighters, teachers, municipal employees, and state employees can be effective in urging local and state governments to take action.
For this initiative to be successful, we are focused on educating, empowering and mobilizing public sector workers to lead the charge. We want to define how this new organization should leverage existing research and networks to incite action towards a solution. And finally, we are looking to be revolutionary – the pension issue is likely the greatest unsolved challenge facing Illinois citizens today.
