Eight Million Stories

Eight Million Stories is a nonprofit that works to close the gap for traditionally underserved youth in Houston, particularly those disconnected from school and work. We believe all young people have the potential to become lifelong learners, earn a family-sustaining wage in their career, and actively participate in civic society. However, not all get the chance due to barriers such as disabilities, homelessness, or involvement with the juvenile justice or child welfare systems. That’s why we take a holistic approach that meets young people where they are to support them in completing their education and obtaining meaningful employment. Building on this foundation of direct impact, Eight Million Stories builds the capacity of leaders, forges networks, and pursues policy reforms to improve how our city understands and responds to youth disconnection. Our vision is a Houston where outcomes for youth are no longer predictable by skin color, zip code, income, and gender.
