The Beddow School

The Beddow Montessori Schools are private, non-sectarian schools for children from 2 1/2 years of age through age 12. Our philosophy is based on the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. Students must be 2-1/2 years of age by September 1 in order to be considered for the primary level classes and 5 years of age by September 1 to be considered for the full day primary classes.

The Primary and Elementary teachers at The Beddow Schools are trained Montessorians and hold Montessori diplomas appropriate to the level they teach, in addition to undergraduate or graduate degrees. The support staff includes administrative professionals and classroom aides.

The Beddow College Preparatory School is a private, co-ed, non-sectarian school for students from grades seven through twelve. The school is located in Accokeek, Maryland on a 7-acre site. Beddow College Preparatory School meets county and state requirements for a private school and holds a Certificate of Approval from the Maryland State Board of Education.

Our skilled, qualified faculty allows us to offer a broad array of courses to meet the needs of our student body. Students will develop the ability to organize and prioritize assignments and undertake research projects. They are expected to dedicate at least one half hour per subject, per day, to study at home. Independent reading is encouraged. Students also participate in physical education, fundraising for class activities, and community service projects.
