Position Description
The Treasurer is a member of Arkansas Asset Builders’ Board of Directors and provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance. In addition to the standard duties of a board member, the Treasurer serves as the primary financial officer of the organization, working in close partnership with the Executive Director (ED) to ensure the financial health and integrity of the organization.
Treasurer responsibilities and expectations include:
- Financial Oversight: Oversee the development and board approval of the annual budget, financial reports, and material business decisions.
- Reporting: Present regular financial reports to the Board of Directors, detailing the organization's financial status and highlighting any significant trends or concerns.
- Compliance: Ensure the organization meets all legal and fiduciary responsibilities, including the timely filing of required tax documents and adherence to internal financial controls.
- Audit Coordination: Lead the process for any annual audits or external financial reviews.
- Committee Leadership: Serve as the chair of the Finance Committee, leading monthly virtual meetings to review financial performance and policy.
- Advisory Role: Serve as a trusted advisor to the ED on financial strategy and the implementation of the strategic plan.
Board Member expectations also include:
- Performance Evaluation: Participate in the annual performance evaluation of the Executive Director.
- Impact Assessment: Regularly review and measure the organization's performance and effectiveness using established metrics and outcome reports.
- Ambassadorship: Represent Arkansas Asset Builders to stakeholders and act as an official ambassador in the community.
- Fundraising Support: Assist in planning and executing major fundraising events, solicit business sponsorships, and develop relationships with donors.
- Recruitment: Help identify and recruit new board members to ensure the board remains strong and effective.
- Diversity Advocacy: Ensure that both the board and staff reflect the diverse communities that Arkansas Asset Builders serves.
Time Commitment
- Term: Two-year term, with eligibility for re-appointment.
- Board Meetings: Held every 2-3 months in Conway (or virtually) on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM.
- Committee Meetings: Monthly virtual meetings (less than 60 minutes) for 1-2 assigned committees.
- Annual Retreat: A half-day retreat held on a Saturday in late August or early September.
- Special Events: Provide volunteer or financial support for at least one special event per year.
