    Descripción

Steady voice. Hard moments. Real difference.

The Domestic Violence Survivor Support Specialist is the person a survivor reaches when they need help and do not know where else to turn. Working directly with survivors through Operation Safe Escape's secure online portal, this role listens, assesses, and delivers clear safety guidance at the moment it matters. It is the front door of everything we do.

This role requires patience, discretion, and the ability to stay calm and useful in someone else's crisis. It requires the judgment to know what you can answer, what needs to be escalated, and when the most important thing you can do is simply not make it worse. Training and orientation are provided. You do not need to arrive knowing our playbooks. You do need to be the kind of person who will use them carefully.

    WHAT THE ROLE LOOKS LIKE

    Survivor Intake and Communication

    • Conducts structured, empathetic conversations with survivors via the secure portal, secure email, intake forms, or other designated channels.
    • Identifies urgency and threat profile using the established triage rubric.
    • Escalates critical cases to Threat Response or other domain specialists without delay.

    Safety and Security Consultation

    • Provides immediate, actionable safety guidance, including device security, location protection, burner setup, and surveillance countermeasures.
    • Explains key security concepts in non-technical, survivor-friendly language.
    • Ensures all advice aligns with OSE's current playbooks, threat models, and privacy protocols.

    Documentation and Follow-Through

    • Records case details accurately and in accordance with OSE procedures.
    • Follows up as appropriate and hands off cleanly when a case moves to another team.

    Self-Care

    • The mental health and well-being of our volunteers is paramount
    • OSE provides self-care resources and guidance to help avoid burnout or compassion fatigue

    WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

    • Strong written communication skills and the ability to be clear, warm, and concise under pressure.
    • Comfort working with people in distress without taking over their decisions.
    • Willingness to follow established procedure, including knowing when to escalate rather than improvise.
    • Reliability and consistency. Survivors are counting on a response.
    • Experience in advocacy, victim services, crisis work, social work, counseling, security, or a related field is helpful but not required.
    • Familiarity with the cybersecurity challenges faced by survivors of abuse, stalking, and trafficking is a plus.
    • Training and orientation are provided. We will teach you our tools, rubrics, and playbooks.

    DATA PROTECTION AND CLIENT PROTECTION

    • Volunteers handle confidential data and must protect survivor information at all times.
    • Case details, survivor identities, and any information shared in the course of support must be handled with the strictest confidence and protected in accordance with Operation Safe Escape procedures.
    • Each volunteer must pass a double background check due to the sensitive nature of the work.
    • Operation Safe Escape is a non-discriminatory organization that protects survivors regardless of gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, immigration status, or any other characteristic.
