    Mission

    Rise with Resilience exists to empower vulnerable individuals by mobilizing community support, raising awareness, and generating resources that fund the trauma-informed housing and employment support services delivered by Advocacy Change Thrive—especially in underserved and rural Snohomish County.

    Position Summary

    The Secretary serves as an officer of the Board of Directors and is responsible for ensuring accurate documentation of board activities, maintaining organizational records, and supporting effective communication within the board and with the broader community. In addition to fulfilling all general board member duties, the Secretary plays a vital role in upholding transparency, compliance, and governance best practices.

    Core Responsibilities

    General Board Member Duties

      • Create and maintain the vision of the organization by supporting the mission and goals, ensuring board actions align with organizational objectives.
      • Establish policies by participating in the development, maintenance, and monitoring of governance policies.
      • Provide fiscal oversight by reviewing and monitoring budgets, financial statements, and fiscal practices to ensure responsible stewardship.
      • Represent the community by bringing community needs and perspectives into board decision-making.
      • Advocate for the organization by serving as a public ambassador, reflecting the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
      • Support executive leadership by participating in hiring, evaluating, and supporting the Co-Executive Directors collectively as a board.
      • Ensure adequate financial resources by engage in fundraising efforts and supporting financial sustainability.
      • Ensure legal compliance by helping ensure the organization meets state, federal, and funding requirements.

    Secretary-Specific Duties

      • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of board meetings, including agendas, minutes, and attendance.
      • Work with the Board President and Co-Executive Directors to prepare and distribute meeting agendas, materials, and notices in a timely manner.
      • Record and safeguard all official board actions and decisions.
      • Ensure compliance with bylaws regarding recordkeeping and documentation.
      • Manage and organize the board’s official records and archives, both digital and physical.
      • Certify and maintain records of board policies, bylaws, and amendments.
      • Serve as custodian of important organizational documents, such as board rosters, committee assignments, and terms of office.
      • Support communication between the board and members, staff, or external stakeholders as directed by the Board President.

    Qualifications

      • Strong organizational and written communication skills.
      • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
      • Ability to maintain confidentiality and impartiality in handling sensitive information.
      • Familiarity with nonprofit governance practices preferred.

    Time Commitment

      • Attend all regular and special board meetings.
      • Devote approximately 5–10 hours per month to preparing agendas, reviewing documents, and maintaining records.
      • Participate in committee meetings and organizational events as needed.

    Term

    The Secretary serves a renewable term as outlined in the organization’s bylaws, typically 2–3 years.

    Compensation Disclosure

    This is a volunteer, non-compensated position. Board members may be reimbursed for pre-approved expenses incurred while performing board duties, but they do not receive financial compensation for their service.
