🌱 Event Organizer

Focus: Regularly creating and managing FBB events independently

Friends Beyond Boston is looking for people in Waltham, Watertown, Belmont, Newton, and surrounding communities within about an hour who enjoy bringing people together and want to take a more active role in shaping the local FBB community.

This role is for people who want to regularly create and manage their own FBB events rather than simply helping with individual events.

Event Organizers have the freedom to come up with their own event ideas, choose when and where to hold them, and create and manage their events themselves.

Event Organizers commit to creating at least one event per month. Unplanned life circumstances and occasional cancellations happen, of course; the expectation is consistency rather than perfection.

What Event Organizers Do

• Come up with their own event ideas
• Decide when and where to hold their events
• Create and set up their own events on the FBB platform
• Write their own event descriptions and provide the relevant details
• Manage communication with attendees for their events
• Show up and serve as the event host
• Help create a welcoming experience for members
• Take responsibility for the planning and execution of their events
• Collaborate with the admin team when something needs additional support or falls outside their role

You don't need to ask the admin team for permission every time you want to create an event. Within the community guidelines and general direction of FBB, Event Organizers have the freedom to create events based on their own interests and ideas.

What FBB Provides

You're responsible for creating and managing your own events, but you're not doing it in isolation. FBB provides the community infrastructure and support around your events.

This includes:

• The FBB platform and existing community
• FBB guidelines and event expectations
• Templates and resources where helpful
• Support from the admin team when needed
• Promotion of your FBB events through FBB's outside promotional channels

Outside promotion is part of promoting FBB as a whole, so Event Organizers don't need to independently advertise their events everywhere. The admin team continues promoting FBB events through the group's established channels.

• Want more autonomy than a one-time or occasional member-led event
• Are comfortable handling the planning and logistics of your own events
• Want to contribute consistently to the community
• Enjoy being part of shaping what FBB offers its members
• Can commit to creating at least one event per month

You don't need professional event-planning experience. What matters is that you're comfortable taking initiative, managing your own events, and following through consistently.

This is a volunteer community-building role within a grassroots, member-led community.
