The division helps shape how Mentor A Promise is understood and experienced through compelling narratives, meaningful engagement, and mission-driven communications.
PromiseBrands works closely with PromiseStudios, PromiseVoice, PromisePages, PromisePublic, and leadership teams to ensure MAP's stories reflect authenticity, dignity, hope, and impact.
Role Overview
The Senior Director of Storytelling & Content serves as MAP's senior leader responsible for content strategy, storytelling development, narrative architecture, editorial planning, audience engagement, and mission-driven communications.
This role oversees how MAP tells its story across digital platforms, publications, campaigns, newsletters, blogs, podcasts, social media, documentaries, educational content, community initiatives, and public-facing communications.
Working closely with creative, marketing, communications, advocacy, program, and executive leadership teams, the Senior Director helps transform organizational impact into stories that educate, inspire, mobilize, and strengthen public trust.
The Senior Director ensures that every story shared by MAP reflects the organization's mission, values, and commitment to children and families.
Key Responsibilities
Storytelling Strategy & Narrative Leadership
- Develop and lead MAP's organizational storytelling strategy
- Establish narrative frameworks and content priorities
- Define how MAP communicates its mission, impact, and vision
- Build storytelling systems that support long-term audience growth
- Strengthen consistency across all public-facing narratives
Content Strategy & Editorial Leadership
- Develop organization-wide content strategies and editorial calendars
- Oversee content planning across multiple platforms and channels
- Ensure content aligns with brand, mission, and audience objectives
- Maintain quality standards for written, visual, audio, and multimedia content
- Guide long-term content development efforts
Mission Storytelling
- Elevate stories that reflect the experiences of children, families, mentors, volunteers, and communities
- Support ethical and trauma-informed storytelling practices
- Ensure stories are shared with dignity, respect, and authenticity
- Strengthen community-centered communications
- Promote narratives that inspire hope, belonging, and opportunity
Audience Engagement & Growth
- Develop content strategies that strengthen audience relationships
- Increase engagement across digital and community channels
- Support donor, volunteer, family, partner, and community communications
- Build deeper connections through meaningful storytelling
- Strengthen audience retention and loyalty
Cross-Platform Content Leadership
- Partner with PromiseStudios on podcasts, documentaries, films, and creative media
- Collaborate with PromiseVoice on blogs, journalism, newsletters, and editorial content
- Support PromisePages and publishing initiatives
- Work with PromisePublic on advocacy and public awareness content
- Align storytelling efforts across all MAP divisions
Campaign Storytelling
- Support fundraising, volunteer recruitment, awareness, advocacy, and community engagement campaigns
- Develop narrative strategies that strengthen campaign effectiveness
- Ensure content supports organizational goals and audience needs
- Help translate impact into compelling stories and calls to action
Content Governance & Quality
- Establish editorial standards and content guidelines
- Maintain quality, consistency, and accuracy across content initiatives
- Develop content review and approval processes
- Support brand and messaging alignment
- Promote responsible storytelling practices

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in content strategy, journalism, publishing, communications, storytelling, editorial leadership, marketing, media, public relations, or related fields
- Exceptional writing, editing, and narrative development abilities
- Experience leading content teams and cross-functional initiatives
- Strong understanding of digital content ecosystems and audience engagement
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Passion for mission-driven storytelling and social impact
