We’re seeking a warm, patient, and reliable Companion Volunteer for an older adult living at Brookdale West Seattle who would truly benefit from friendly, consistent social visits.
About the Participant
This participant is a kind, thoughtful gentleman with a rich personal history:
- Lives with mild dementia and may repeat stories from time to time.
- Has a history of depression and tends to isolate in his apartment.
- Used to live in rural New Hampshire and was a master potter alongside his late wife.
- Enjoyed spending time in nature but doesn’t get outdoors much these days.
- Loves sharing stories about his family, reflecting on his life, and talking about whatever YouTube rabbit hole he’s been exploring lately.
- Thrives with calm, one‑on‑one, unhurried conversation.
Your presence can bring connection, routine, and joy into his week.
Volunteer Role
As a Companion Volunteer, you will:
- Visit in person during afternoons or early evenings.
- Offer companionship, warm conversation, and active listening.
- Encourage gentle social engagement to help reduce isolation.
- Enjoy chats about pottery, nature, family stories, or interesting YouTube finds.
- Share moments of calm presence—no special skills required, just kindness.
Ideal Volunteer
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Patient, friendly, and grounding
- Comfortable with mild memory repetition
- A good conversationalist—or simply a good listener
- Dependable and able to visit regularly
- Open to reflective or nostalgic conversations
Experience with dementia is helpful but not required—we provide support and guidance.
