Organization for Accessible Journalism (formerly known as Equal Access Public Media) and its properties (the OAJ Style and Accessibility Guide and The Word magazine) are seeking social media volunteers to write posts, create images, and film content for social media posts.
OAJ's mission is to make news and newsrooms more accessible.
What does it mean to make news accessible? We aim to remove the barriers that keep disabled people and those who may not identify as disabled but may need accessible tech or accommodations such as people who are chronically ill; blind; deaf; deafblind; neurodivergent; caregivers; veterans with injuries or illness; have mental health differences; have learning differences; or are have low literacy away from news. As we like to say, we believe in #NewsForAll.
Who are you?
- Someone who loves social media.
- A person familiar with accessibility best practices such as alt text and captions.
- A person who wants to help spread our mission.
We are eager to have many social media volunteers help us come up with fresh ideas. At this time, OAJ posts mainly on Bluesky, where we have accounts for OAJ and for each of our projects, and on LinkedIn.
You can find us on Bluesky at
and on LinkedIn at
We are also on YouTube and TikTok, where we are looking to expand our content and reach.

Does this sound interesting? Send us:
- Where you post on social media.
- Samples of social media, whether its been work for others or your personal posts.
- Three ideas for social media posts that align with our mission and shows us you have familiarized yourself with our work. (Please do not worry if these are not in the tone we normally use for posts. Be creative! Also, don't worry: these ideas are proprietary to you.)
