Volunteer Dog Handler

Are you experienced in dog handling and confident working with all types of dogs, including strong leash pullers or reactive dogs? Looking to make a direct impact by working hands-on with rescue dogs? We want to hear from you!

We are currently looking for Volunteer Dog Handlers to join our team at Chester’s Corner Rescue Foundation.

Chester’s Corner Rescue Foundation is a dedicated nonprofit organization specializing in animal rescue and rehabilitation. Our mission is to provide abandoned animals with medical care, emotional support, and a path toward finding loving, permanent homes. Every effort we make is driven by compassion and a commitment to the welfare of animals in need.

How You Will Contribute:

Purpose:

Provide hands-on support by safely handling and walking rescue dogs while following established guidelines and maintaining consistency across all volunteers.

Responsibilities:

• Walk and handle dogs according to established guidelines
• Follow all instructions provided by the Dog Program Lead and Senior Dog Handler
• Maintain control, awareness, and safety at all times
• Attend required Zoom training sessions for program expectations
• Participate in a 1:1 assessment with the Senior Dog Handler prior to approval
• Provide updates after each visit as required
• Actively participate in the program WhatsApp group for updates and coordination
• Maintain reliability and consistency with scheduled visits

Immediate Ownership:

Executes safe and consistent dog handling while following program standards and supporting the overall care of rescue dogs.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 1 to 2 years hands-on experience in dog handling (required)
• Experience working with all types of dogs, including strong leash pullers or reactive dogs (required)
• Ability to follow direction and adhere to established guidelines
• Strong awareness and control when handling dogs
• Reliability and consistency

Commitment Details:

Approximately 2 to 4 hours per week

On-site involvement required for handling and walking sessions
