Remote Donation Outreach Volunteer

Help Homeward Bound Animal Rescue by contacting businesses and organizations that may be willing to donate items for our shelter and animals. This is a remote volunteer opportunity for people who can make phone calls, send emails, fill out donation request forms, and follow up with local or national businesses on our behalf.

This role is ideal for someone who is organized, persistent, and comfortable communicating professionally with businesses. Donations may include pet food, treats, cleaning supplies, paper goods, human snack items for volunteers, gift cards, event items, raffle prizes, or other in-kind support that helps our rescue continue operating.

Responsibilities

• Research businesses, brands, restaurants, and community organizations that may support animal rescues.
• Send donation request emails or submit online request forms using a provided template.
• Make phone calls to follow up on pending requests when needed.
• Keep track of who was contacted, when they were contacted, and whether they responded.
• Record promised donations, shipment details, pickup details, and next steps.
• Send polite follow-up messages if there is no response after a reasonable amount of time.
• Communicate any important updates back to the rescue team.
• Help identify new donation leads from social media, business directories, community groups, and referral suggestions.

What we are looking for

• Strong written communication.
• Comfort speaking with businesses by phone or email.
• Reliable follow-through.
• Ability to keep organized notes in a spreadsheet, document, or shared system.
• Friendly, professional tone.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred skills

• Experience with outreach, sales, fundraising, nonprofit work, or customer service.
• Familiarity with Google Sheets, email, and web forms.
• Attention to detail.
• Persistence without being pushy.
• Ability to track deadlines and follow-up dates.

Time commitment

Flexible and remote. Volunteers may help with a few outreach requests per week or take on a larger batch depending on availability.

Training and support

We will provide:

• A donation request template.
• A list of target businesses and suggested donation categories.
• Instructions for how to log outreach and responses.
• Guidance on who to contact and what to ask for.

Important notes

This is a remote support role and does not require in-person shelter work. Volunteers should be comfortable representing the rescue professionally and respectfully. We ask that all outreach be approved or tracked through the rescue so we can avoid duplicate requests and keep communication organized.
