🔴 Note for Applicants: This is an on-site international volunteer placement located in Accra, Ghana. This opportunity is AVAILABLE for ONLY INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERS and UNIVERSITY STUDENTS from Europe, America, Asia, Australia and Antarctica traveling to Ghana from abroad. Volunteers are responsible for their own flights and visa arrangements, accommodation and feeding. Volunteers living in Ghana do not qualify.

SFLIG Volunteers invites passionate International nursing, midwifery, pre-med, and public health students, as well as qualified medical professionals, to join our Midwifery & Maternal Health Clinical Internship in Ghana.

Maternal healthcare in developing communities requires resourcefulness, dedication, and deep empathy. This immersive internship embeds you directly within local clinics and hospital maternity units. Working alongside licensed Ghanaian midwives and healthcare professionals, you will gain invaluable insight into prenatal care, labor and delivery management, and postnatal support in a grassroots healthcare setting.

This program is specifically structured to help international students fulfill clinical elective hours, gain global health perspectives, and make a tangible contribution to maternal and infant wellness.

🛠️ Key Responsibilities:

• Clinical Shadowing & Observation: Shadow local midwives and obstetric nurses during deliveries, ward rounds, and patient consultations to understand local healthcare challenges and practices.
• Prenatal & Postnatal Care Support: Assist healthcare staff with routine checkups, including measuring vital signs, monitoring fetal heart rates, weighing infants, and recording patient history.
• Maternal Health Education: Help facilitate community health outreaches and deliver basic workshops for expectant mothers on nutrition, breastfeeding, and infant hygiene.
• Ward Administration & Support: Assist with the daily organization, sanitization, and administrative flow of the maternity and neonatal units.

• Age: 18+ (Best practice for medical placements to ensure clinical maturity).
• Target Audience: Open to pre-midwifery, nursing, pre-med, public health students, and certified medical practitioners.
• Skills: Strong work ethic, emotional resilience, deep respect for patient confidentiality, and adaptability to grassroots hospital environments.
• Documentation: Interns may be required to submit a brief resume/CV or academic transcript showing their healthcare track before arrival.
