Role Summary:
The Volunteer AI/ML Engineer (AI Agents) will support the design, development, and deployment of intelligent AI agent systems that enhance the Foundation's research, operations, and climate initiatives. This role focuses on building scalable machine learning and large language model (LLM)-powered solutions, integrating agentic workflows, and optimizing AI applications that improve organizational efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deploy AI agents and agentic workflows to automate organizational processes and support climate-focused initiatives.
- Build, fine-tune, and optimize machine learning models and LLM-powered applications for a variety of operational and research use cases.
- Integrate AI models with APIs, databases, and external tools to create intelligent, end-to-end solutions.
- Develop, evaluate, and improve prompt engineering strategies, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, and multi-agent systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities where AI and machine learning can improve workflows, decision-making, and program delivery.
- Monitor model performance, document technical solutions, and implement best practices for scalable AI development.
Requirements:
- Background in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Experience developing AI/ML applications, AI agents, or agentic workflows.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn.
- Experience working with LLMs, prompt engineering, APIs, and AI frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar technologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with attention to detail.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, embeddings, and semantic search.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, MLOps, model deployment, and containerization technologies.
- Experience working on nonprofit, environmental, or impact-driven projects.
- Understanding of climate, sustainability, or nature-based solutions and how AI can support environmental innovation.
