HHCC serves immigrants, older adults, families and youth through education, cultural activities, technology assistance, citizenship preparation and community engagement.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Conduct simulated U.S. citizenship interviews based on the applicant's N-400 application form.
    • Review the 128 civics questions (history and government) with applicants.
    • Practice standard English reading and writing sentences required for the test.
    • Provide constructive, encouraging feedback to help applicants build confidence and improve their English comprehension.
    • Track applicant progress and report updates to the program coordinator.

    Qualifications:

    • Patient, encouraging, and clear communicator.
    • Strong command of spoken and written English.
    • Comfort working with English language learners from diverse backgrounds.
    • No prior legal experience is required; training materials and interview scripts will be provided.
    • Ability to speak Mandarin Chinese or another community language is a plus, but not required.

    Commitment:

Approximately two to four hours per week for at least three to six months. Sessions can be conducted remotely via Zoom/phone or in person depending on volunteer and student preference.

    Benefits:

    • Direct, meaningful impact helping immigrants achieve their dream of U.S. citizenship.
    • Gain experience in tutoring, coaching, and community education.
    • Learn about the U.S. naturalization process firsthand.
    • Receive documentation of volunteer service after successful completion.
