    Descripción

    Volunteer Marshal – National Domestic Violence Rally & Walk-a-Thon | Washington, DC

    Join us as a Volunteer Marshal for the National Domestic Violence Rally & Walk-a-Thon, a peaceful awareness event held in Washington, D.C., that brings together survivors, advocates, community leaders, law enforcement, military members, healthcare professionals, students, and supporters to raise awareness about domestic violence and other forms of abuse.

    Volunteer Marshals play a vital role in ensuring participants have a safe, organized, and positive experience throughout the event. No prior experience is required—we will provide training and orientation before the event.

    Volunteer Responsibilities

    • Welcome and assist participants during registration and check-in.
    • Help direct participants along the designated march route.
    • Provide general information and answer questions from attendees.
    • Encourage participants to remain together and follow event instructions.
    • Assist with crowd guidance and pedestrian safety.
    • Communicate with event leadership regarding any concerns or emergencies.
    • Support survivors and guests with kindness, compassion, and professionalism.
    • Assist with event setup and breakdown as needed.
    • Help distribute programs, water, awareness materials, and resource information.

    Qualifications

    • At least 18 years of age (or accompanied by an adult if younger).
    • Friendly, dependable, and professional.
    • Comfortable walking approximately 2–3 miles.
    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
    • Passion for supporting survivors and promoting healthy, violence-free communities.
    • Commitment to treating all participants with dignity and respect.

    Training

    All Volunteer Marshals will participate in a brief virtual or in-person orientation before the event covering:

    • Event schedule
    • March route
    • Safety procedures
    • Emergency communication
    • Volunteer expectations
    • Survivor-informed engagement

    Volunteer shift times will be provided after acceptance.

    After submitting your interest through Idealist, a member of our volunteer team will review your application. Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in a brief virtual interview.

    If selected, you will receive:

    • An invitation to schedule your interview at a convenient date and time.
    • A Google Meet or Zoom link for your interview.
    • Volunteer orientation information.
    • Your volunteer assignment and event-day details.
    • A Volunteer Marshal Guide, safety procedures, and event schedule prior to the event.

    We are looking for volunteers who are dependable, respectful, compassionate, and committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for survivors, families, and all attendees.

    Previous volunteer experience is appreciated but not required. Training will be provided.

    Community service volunteers, college and high school students (where permitted), military members, veterans, civic organizations, faith-based groups, and corporate volunteer teams are encouraged to apply.
