In our human rights advocacy work, it turns out that many people in oppressive situations also need ways to earn remotely. In order to create non-exploitative opportunities and also exercise a democratic muscle, Raise the Voices helps democratically run startups using an earned governance model, so that everyone working in them has a voice and legally shared ownership. To help them be successful, we need partners and mentors who have business experience in domains like supply chain, health care, real estate, mining, impact investing, technology, procurement - essentially any deep domain expertise that can help talented young people who have worked for democracy to secure work outside of the oppressive regime situations where they may be located.
Your business experience or domain expertise can work to reshape society and help people in a very direct way. Looking for retired or corporate volunteers, consultants or experts who can help to connect these teams and talented young people to opportunities. These might be contract or internships, through US public benefit corporation or through a 501c3. The key is to provide paying work that helps build civil society and helps support talented and determined individuals who are under difficult circumstances, in Gaza, Syria, Afghanistan, Myanmar, also refugees from these areas in Thailand and Pakistan, various locations in Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, and in partnership with some in US and EU.
You will be connected to the elected lead of one or more such organizations.
