The Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) gives free legal help to low-income people. Our monolingual clients need interpreters to communicate with attorneys and receive the legal advice and services they need. Utilizing your language skills provides critical help to clients so they can receive life-changing legal assistance.
Volunteering is on a need-by-need basis. When we take on a client who needs interpreting help, you will receive an email asking you to join a meeting between the client and their attorney, based on your interest and time availability. Volunteering can be done in-person, with social distancing and proper PPE protocols in place, or remotely.
We also need volunteer interpreters for our free legal clinics. These are recurring events, held in-person and remotely. If you are interested in volunteering for a legal clinic, JDC will email you with the dates and times of upcoming clinics that need interpretation services.
Interpreters are essential for clients with limited or no English proficiency and their ability to access legal services. Please consider volunteering today!
