Volunteer with YourPassion1st: Legal Co‑Chair
Location: Remote, with occasional virtual meetings aligned to Central Time (Chicago)
Time Commitment: 3–5 hours per week for 4–6 months
Role Snapshot
Provide legal guidance that keeps YourPassion1st’s youth‑centered work safe, compliant, and sustainable.
As Legal Co‑Chair, you will co‑lead the legal function, helping review agreements, reduce risk around events and partnerships, and advise on policies that support a healthy, mission‑aligned organization.
What You’ll Do
- Co‑lead the Legal team, serving as a thought partner to the Executive Director and Board on key legal questions.
- Review and help refine contracts, MOUs, waivers, and partnership agreements (e.g., with schools, venues, vendors, mentors).
- Provide guidance on liability and risk for youth events, festivals, and collaborative workshops.
- Support policy development in areas such as data privacy, youth safety, volunteer agreements, and intellectual property related to creative projects.
- Coordinate with Mentoring, Onboarding, and HR‑adjacent volunteers on compliance‑related onboarding materials and background check processes, as needed.
- Help identify when outside legal expertise is necessary and assist with referrals or pro bono connections.

- Are a licensed attorney or advanced law student (preferably with nonprofit, youth‑serving, or employment/contract experience).
- Can translate legal concepts into clear, accessible guidance for staff and volunteers.
- Are collaborative, solutions‑oriented, and aligned with a youth‑empowerment mission.
- Comfortable working in a co‑chair model and sharing leadership responsibilities.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 3–5 hours per week
