    Descripción

    Description:

    Savo Island is seeking a Tech Tutor to provide technology support to residents who have expressed interest in improving their digital skills. The volunteer will assist residents with basic questions related to computers, phones, tablets, and common digital tools. Resident age and skill level may vary, so the volunteer should be comfortable providing patient, individualized support.

    Sessions will take place bi-weekly, with flexible scheduling based on volunteer availability and resident needs. Sessions should be scheduled after 11:00 AM and will last approximately 2 hours. A mid to late August start date is preferred if scheduling allows. A designated staff parking space will be available for volunteers during scheduled program times, with approval from the Property Manager.

    Reports to:

    Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator

    Goal of Position:

    To help residents gain confidence using technology, troubleshoot common issues, access information, and use digital tools more independently in their daily lives.

    Specific Tasks:

    1. Assess residents’ technology needs and tailor support to their interests and skill levels.
    2. Provide one-on-one technology assistance with phones, laptops, tablets, and basic computer use.
    3. Answer residents’ questions clearly and help them develop basic troubleshooting skills.
    4. Manage multiple drop-in requests on a first-come, first-served basis when needed.
    5. Ask residents what additional technology topics they would like to learn.
    6. Coordinate with the Service Coordinator to determine the best format for tech support sessions.
    7. Offer simple lessons or demonstrations based on resident interests, such as internet browsing, email, Microsoft Word, online forms, video calling, or similar tools.
    8. Remain patient and supportive of residents with limited technology experience.
    9. Monitor attendance and ensure all participating residents sign the sign-in sheet.
    10. Communicate any material, equipment, or support needs to the Volunteer Coordinator or Service Coordinator.

    Qualifications:

    Physical/Age Requirements:

    • Able to sit, stand, and move around the room during sessions.
    • Able to communicate clearly and patiently with residents.

    Skills/Education/Experience:

    • Strong general knowledge of computers, smartphones, tablets, and digital tools.
    • Ability to explain technology concepts clearly and simply.
    • Friendly, patient, dependable, open-minded, and solution-oriented.
    • Comfortable assisting residents with different skill levels and learning needs.
    • Prior experience teaching, training, or providing technology support is preferred.
