Grant Writer (Volunteer, Remote)
The Akari Foundation is a small nonprofit organization seeking an experienced grant writer to support our mission of raising awareness and improving access to education and resources for Hispanic families affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rare, progressive neuromuscular disease that primarily affects boys, occurring in approximately 1 in 3,500 to 5,000 male births. Early diagnosis is critical, as it allows individuals to access timely care and interventions that can improve quality of life. In Hispanic communities, signs and symptoms are often missed or misunderstood, leading to delayed diagnosis and reduced access to care.
Our goal is to reach undiagnosed, newly diagnosed, and previously diagnosed Spanish-speaking families to educate, inform, and connect them with trusted, culturally and linguistically appropriate resources.
The grant writer will work directly with the Founder to identify prospective funding opportunities and prepare competitive grant proposals. This role focuses on securing one-time and recurring funding from government agencies, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and private and public foundations.
