    All volunteers are expected to:

    • Promote a respectful, inclusive environment
    • Maintain confidentiality
    • Uphold HFHNCC’s zero-tolerance policies (drugs, alcohol, weapons)
    • Respect boundaries and ethical guidelines, including gift policies
    • Protect the integrity of HFHNCC’s mission and programs
    • Report concerns through appropriate channels

    Volunteer Committee Job Description

    Family Support Committee (FSC – Support)

    “Accountability Partner & Encourager”

    Role Summary

    The Family Support Committee serves as the primary relationship bridge between HFHNCC and participating families. Volunteers walk alongside prospective homeowners from acceptance through post-purchase, ensuring they remain on track, supported, and successful.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Build a trusted, supportive relationship with assigned family(ies)
    • Conduct monthly check-ins and provide progress updates to staff
    • Guide families through:
    • Sweat Equity completion
    • Homeownership education requirements
    • Financial readiness and savings goals
    • The closing process
    • Transition to homeownership and post-purchase success
    • Monitor and support progress in:
    • Income stability
    • Credit maintenance
    • Debt management
    • Savings (including settlement funds)
    • Utilize HFHNCC tools:
    • Individual Service Plan (ISP)
    • Monthly progress reports
    • Financial tracking forms
    • Identify and communicate early warning signs or risks
    • Collaborate with staff and partners (e.g., housing counselors, financial coaches)

    Primary Goal

    Prevent de-selection by ensuring early intervention, accountability, and encouragement.

    Qualifications

    • Strong relationship-building and listening skills
    • Empathy and sensitivity to challenges faced by low-moderate income households
    • Ability to balance support with accountability
    • Comfortable discussing:
    • Budgeting and finances
    • Personal goals and barriers
    • Experience in coaching, mentoring, or social services is a plus

    Time Commitment

    • 2-year commitment
    • Approximately 3–6 hours per month
    • Includes:
    • Monthly family meetings/check-ins
    • Committee meetings
    • Reporting responsibilities
