Hearth Overview

Hearth is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of homelessness among the elderly. This mission is accomplished through a unique blend of prevention, placement, and housing programs all designed to help elders find and succeed in homes of their own.

To this end, all housing operated by Hearth provides a creative array of supportive services that assist residents to age with dignity, regardless of their special medical, mental health, or social needs. Hearth believes these goals are best accomplished through respect for elders and staff, with the desire to see both achieve their highest degree of potential.

Volunteers make a huge difference in improving the everyday health and quality of life of our residents. At Hearth, we have a wide variety of opportunities available, both direct contact with our residents and administrative tasks that keep Hearth’s operations going.

Location: Four Corners, Dorchester, MA

Commitment: Weekly, recurring (weekday or weekend, day or evening)

Hearth’s Four Corners residence is seeking a creative volunteer to lead art or craft activities for older adult residents. These programs give residents the opportunity to express themselves, socialize, and build confidence through creativity.

What you’ll do:

• Plan and lead simple art or craft projects (all supplies provided)
• Encourage residents to participate and enjoy the activity
• Foster a warm, inclusive, and fun environment

You are:

• Creative, patient, and enthusiastic about sharing your skills
• Comfortable working with older adults in a group setting
• Able to commit to a weekly, recurring schedule
