About Mentor A Promise
Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, education, creative opportunity, advocacy, and community-centered support.
As MAP grows, strong marketing is essential to ensuring our programs, stories, research, publications, partnerships, and opportunities reach the people who can engage with and advance our mission.
About PromiseVoice
PromiseVoice is MAP's marketing, communications, media, and audience engagement division.
The division shapes how MAP is seen, understood, and experienced—bringing together marketing, strategic communications, public relations, digital media, content strategy, executive communications, and audience insights under one coordinated organizational voice.
Our goal is not attention for attention's sake.
We turn attention into awareness, awareness into engagement, and engagement into meaningful action.
Role Overview
Mentor A Promise is seeking a strategic, creative, and data-informed Director of Marketing & Audience Growth to lead integrated marketing, campaign strategy, audience development, and performance optimization across the organization.
Reporting to the Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, this leader will translate MAP's programs, stories, publications, events, and initiatives into thoughtful campaigns that reach the right audiences and inspire meaningful engagement.
This role requires both creative instinct and analytical discipline—someone who understands exceptional storytelling but also knows how to build the strategy, distribution, measurement, and optimization systems that allow great work to reach its audience.
What You'll Build
You will help build:
- MAP's integrated marketing strategy
- Audience growth and segmentation systems
- Campaign planning and launch frameworks
- Digital distribution and channel strategies
- Marketing analytics and performance dashboards
- Email and newsletter growth strategies
- Audience journeys and engagement pathways
- Repeatable systems for turning creative work into measurable reach and action
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Campaign Strategy
- Develop integrated marketing strategies for MAP programs, publications, films, podcasts, events, campaigns, and major initiatives.
- Build campaign plans from concept through launch, optimization, and post-campaign evaluation.
- Establish clear audiences, objectives, channels, calls to action, and measures of success.
- Translate organizational priorities into compelling audience-facing campaigns.
- Coordinate campaign calendars and major launches across divisions.
Audience Growth & Engagement
- Develop strategies to grow and deepen engagement with MAP's audiences.
- Build meaningful audience segments based on interests, behaviors, and engagement.
- Strengthen pathways from awareness to volunteering, partnership, readership, participation, giving, and advocacy where appropriate.
- Develop strategies for email, newsletter, social, digital, partnership, and community distribution.
- Balance audience growth with meaningful engagement rather than focusing on vanity metrics.
Marketing Analytics & Optimization
- Establish measurable goals and key performance indicators for campaigns.
- Analyze reach, engagement, conversion, retention, and channel performance.
- Build dashboards and reporting systems that translate marketing data into actionable insights.
- Test and refine messaging, content, channels, and campaign strategies.
- Use evidence to continuously improve marketing effectiveness.
Creative & Cross-Divisional Collaboration
- Partner with PromiseStudios, PromiseBrands, PromisePages, PromisePublic, PromiseBridge, PromiseGiving, and program teams.
- Translate creative assets into coordinated campaign strategies without compromising their artistic integrity.
- Develop campaign briefs that provide creative teams with clear audiences, objectives, messages, deliverables, and timelines.
- Ensure marketing activities remain consistent with MAP's brand, safeguarding, privacy, accessibility, and dignity-centered storytelling standards.
Team Leadership
- Help recruit, develop, and retain marketing volunteers.
- Establish clear responsibilities, priorities, timelines, and accountability.
- Mentor emerging marketing professionals and encourage continuous learning.
- Build workflows that allow campaigns to move efficiently from strategy through execution.
- Create a collaborative environment where creative thinking and data-informed decision-making strengthen one another.
What Success Looks Like
Success is not measured simply by followers, impressions, or clicks.
Success means:
- MAP has a clear and coordinated marketing strategy.
- Campaigns begin with defined audiences, objectives, and measurable outcomes.
- Audience reach and meaningful engagement grow over time.
- Marketing decisions increasingly reflect evidence and audience insights.
- Creative work receives thoughtful, coordinated distribution.
- Email and digital audiences become more engaged and better understood.
- Campaign performance is consistently measured and improved.
- Divisions understand how marketing supports their goals.
- MAP converts greater awareness into meaningful participation in its mission.
