    About Cheer Seattle

    Cheer Seattle is an all-adult, nonprofit, cheer and dance organization that raises funds, awareness, and spirits for the LGBQTIA+ community through inspiring performances and inclusive community outreach.

    About The Role

    This is a volunteer leadership role within a working board. Board members are actively involved in governance, strategic planning, fundraising, and community representation. Each board member contributes their time, talent, and treasure to advance Cheer Seattle’s mission.

    Responsibilities

    • Organizational Leadership & Governance
      • Set and oversee Cheer Seattle’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with the mission.
      • Establish financial strategy, budget, and organizational policies.
      • Participate in high-level brand management, external partnerships, and beneficiary selection.
      • Uphold ethical standards, confidentiality, and conflict-of-interest policies.
    • Board Engagement & Operations
      • Attend and actively participate in quarterly board meetings (virtual or in-person as needed).
      • Be accessible for discussions and votes between meetings.
      • Serve as a sponsor on at least one committee to support operational goals.
      • Attend an annual board retreat and participate in board self-assessments.
    • Community & Volunteer Engagement
      • Act as an ambassador and advocate for Cheer Seattle in the community.
      • Support recruitment, onboarding, and mentorship of new volunteers.
      • Conduct new member interviews at tryouts and engage with team activities.
    • Fundraising & Financial Support
      • Contribute to and participate in fundraising efforts, including an annual individual financial commitment matching that of team volunteers.
      • Leverage personal and professional networks to support Cheer Seattle’s financial sustainability.
      • Support and participate in key fundraising events such as Pride and beneficiary partnerships.

    Preferred Skills & Experience

    While prior board or nonprofit experience is a plus, we welcome individuals passionate about our mission. Preferred experience includes:

    • Fundraising, grant writing, or nonprofit development
    • HR, volunteer management, or policy development
    • Event planning and community engagement
    • Justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) program development
    • Marketing, branding, or social media management
    • Vendor relations and partnership management
    • Legal expertise in nonprofit governance

    Commitment & Expectations

    • Serve a two-year term, renewable by board election.
    • Dedicate 2-6 hours per month to board meetings, committee work, and organizational needs.
    • Maintain active participation and responsiveness to board communications.
    • Adhere to all governing documents, including bylaws and policies.
    • Positively represent Cheer Seattle in all capacities.

    • You will be interviewed by at least two current board members.
    • Elections will be held at the Q4 board meeting (typically held in May).
    • If elected, you will become a director-elect until June 30. During this time you will be able to participate in all board discussions and meetings, except voting. This will be a transition and training period for incoming and outgoing board members.
